popular music ain't for me
nope
you got to give me some underdog music like jazz, hip-hop, be-bop and r&b
no popular music ain't my cup of tea
you see it robs me of my rhythm
my black rhythmic self can't function without a deep drum
i've tried popular music for about 6 years and you know what it did to me?
it made me insecure, scared to be sexy in public for fear of the wrong moves
it took away my mind and had me confused on my own nationality
had me focused on the wrong thing all the time while the world was tumbling down
all the while making musicians rich off my ignorance
it corrupted me
yes, popular music did this to me
so i had to say good-bye
and i haven't looked back since
('cause it's a circus and i don't turn no tricks)
